‘MENTALITY by Michael Watson’ is a non-profit youth sports organization specifically designed to develop the complete student- athlete. While natural ability, skill-set, and physical attributes play an important part in any athletic competition, the right ‘MENTALITY’ is vital to success on and off the field of play. Using sports as a magnet, ‘MENTALITY by Michael Watson’ looks to serve as a conduit for the whole athlete, giving them the tools and the opportunity to excel in Athletics, Arts, & Academics.

About Michael Watson:

Michael Watson is highly regarded as one of the best athletes to ever come out of Kansas City, Missouri. As a 4-sport lettermen in high school (Basketball, Football, Baseball, Track & Field), his passion for sports was undeniable. As an All City, District, and State performer for Central High School, Michael led his basketball team to a 2nd place finish at the 1999 Class 4A Missouri State High School Championships. Watson received over 40 college scholarship offers to play collegiate basketball and football, but chose to stay home and to play for the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).

While at UMKC, Watson led a resurgence of Kangaroos Men’s Basketball. Leading his team in scoring 3 out of 4 years (23 ppg career average), and to a Mid-Continent Conference Championship game. He was named a Mid-Major All-American and in 2003, finished 3rd in Div. 1 scoring averaging nearly 26 ppg. He had the highlight of his college career with a 54-point performance versus Oral Roberts University that still stands a single game record for UMKC. Watson is still UMKC’s All-Time leader in points (2,488), 3-pointers made (371- NCAA Div. 1 History, Ranked #7 (2004), and minutes played.

After a stellar collegiate career, Watson went on to sign with the NBA’s Boston Celtics (2004). He went on to play 8 years as a professional basketball player in Italy, France, Poland, Turkey, and Puerto Rico where he was an International Champion (2007).
